Last week the DC City council unanimously passed legislation that would require employers who offer free or subsidized parking to also offer employees subsidized transit or the cash equivalent of the value of parking provided. The legislation provides employers with a number of options to comply including the aforementioned parking cash-out policy, including developing and implementing a plan to reduce single-occupancy trips by 10% each year.
This legislation is the result of years of hard work led by the Coalition for Smarter Growth in Washington DC. CoaST supports this effort.
The City Council will now move to final passage of the legislation which is expected in April. The Mayor is then expected to sign.
CoaST will continue to support and provide information on this legislation.
