In a widely expected move, the Trump administration rolled back requirements on fuel efficiency standards. Specifically, the rule eliminates a Obama era policy that would have required automakers to reach a fleet-wide average of 51.4 miles per gallon by 2025. Under the proposed policy, fuel efficiency standards will be frozen through 2026. In its release, the administration argues that the rule making would prevent nearly 1,000 automobile crashes every year. In addition, the administration said it would challenge the ability of individual States to set their own standards.
